Fable: The Lost Chapters is an expanded version of the original Fable, developed by Lionhead Studios. Initially created as a PC port of Fable, the game was subsequently released for the Xbox and later ported to Mac OS X by Feral Interactive. This enhanced edition includes all the content from the original Fable, along with new features such as additional monsters, weapons, items, armor, towns, buildings, and expressions.
The story is further enriched with nine new areas and sixteen additional quests, offering players a more comprehensive exploration of Albion. The in-game menu allows players to review detailed information about their character, including romance statistics (such as sexuality, number of spouses, weddings, and divorces) and other personal data like titles.
Note: The Xbox LIVE Marketplace version of Fable does not include The Lost Chapters expansion.
To commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the original Fable, Lionhead Studios released a high-definition remastered version of The Lost Chapters titled Fable Anniversary. This remaster was launched for Xbox 360 in February 2014 and for PC in September 2014.
Plot
Following the conclusion of the main quest in the original Fable, the storyline continues with a new chapter. After the Hero of Oakvale is believed to have defeated Jack of Blades, word emerges of his resurrection in the Northern Wastes of Albion. The Hero must embark on a journey to this icy region to confront and stop Jack once again.

Gameplay
Fable: The Lost Chapters introduces several gameplay enhancements and additions:
- New Expressions.
- Slight graphical improvements.
- Timers now turn red when only ten seconds remain.
- New monsters: Ice Trolls, Summoners, Wraiths, and Frost Balverines.
- Additional Silver Keys, Silver Key Chests, and Demon Doors.
- Improved visual effects for Flourish, where charged weapons now glow purple instead of fiery orange to distinguish them from fire-augmented weapons.
- Continuous water ripples with an updated visual design.
- Mini-map adjustments: Demon Doors now appear purple instead of red to differentiate them from enemies.
- Bug fixes, including the removal of exploits such as the "digging through loading points" trick and item duplication using the Hero Save.[1]
- Enhanced combat multiplier: Flourishes no longer deflect off targets when the multiplier reaches ten.
- Removed misleading Kraken indicator during the Bargate Prison quest.
- Items can now be collected by running over them, and their icons are displayed in the bottom-left corner of the screen after acquisition.
New Armor and Outfits
- Hooded Guild Apprentice Shirt.
- Fire Assassin Outfit, similar to the standard Assassin Outfit but featuring red cloth and designs.
- Dark Wizard Hat and Bright Wizard Hat, earned by donating 20 "evil" or "good" books, respectively, to the teacher in Bowerstone South.
- Archon's Battle Armour, a legendary set forged from the remains of the last Platinum Troll and once worn by the Archon of the Old Kingdom.
- Holy Warrior Helm and Daemon Warrior Helm, relics from the conflict between the followers of Avo and Skorm.
- Jack of Blades's Mask, which can be equipped at the end of the main quest for players willing to sacrifice morality points. Once worn, the mask fuses to the player's face and cannot be removed.
New and Updated Weapons
- Avo's Tear, a legendary sword forged by Solcius, a powerful Guild Mage, as a counterpart to the Sword of Aeons for players who choose to discard it in the original game's climax.
- The Bereaver, a sinister sword believed to have belonged to one of the Guild's most malevolent heroes.
- The Avenger, a weapon forged from the vengeful heart of the hero Wheldon.
- Orkon's Club, once owned by Orkon, a reclusive figure mistaken for a Hobbe or baby Troll.
- The Sword of Aeons has been rebalanced, reducing its damage from 550 to 230 and removing its sharpening augmentation.
New and Updated Spells
- Divine Fury and Infernal Wrath, alignment-based area-of-effect spells that deal significant damage.
- Enhanced visual effects for some spells, such as a blue after-effect for Assassin Rush.
New and Expanded Characters
- Briar Rose, a Hero who now plays a significant role in several quests.
- Scythe, a mysterious Hero who serves as a key figure in the expanded storyline and can be encountered early in the game.
- Whisper, who can now be found in the Oakvale Tavern after the Arena quest if spared. Additional backstory for Whisper and Thunder is also revealed.
- Jack of Blades has a deeper, more menacing voice. His backstory is expanded, and he transforms into a dragon as the final boss of the game. After his defeat, the Heroes Guild is fully rebuilt and accessible.
New Regions and Locations
- Northern Wastes, a previously cut region now central to the extended storyline. It features six new areas, a Demon Door, and several silver key chests.
- Snowspire Oracle, a location within the Northern Wastes, offers insights into the fates of characters like Theresa and Albion's lore.
- Darkwood Bordello, a previously omitted location, adds side quests, a Demon Door, and access to its services. Players can choose to manage the bordello for profit or transform it into a women's refuge.
New Side Quests and Mini-Games
- The new Chicken Kicking Competition; a side quest and mini-game in Oakvale.
- The player may now solve the mystery surrounding the death of Lady Grey's sister, Amanda Grey. In doing so, the player can become the Mayor of Bowerstone, depending on which choices he makes.
Trivia
- According to co-creators Dene and Simon Carter, the storyline of Fable is heavily inspired by the story of "The Luck Child" from Jim Henson's TV series The StoryTeller.
- It is implied that a lot of the content found in The Lost Chapters was meant to be in the original Fable in some way, shape or form. But due to time constraints, the developers ended up merging some of those ideas together. For example: Snowspire and the Necropolis were meant to be their own island and not connected to each other.
